An inner wellspring of infinite joy that you can always draw from. The Dutch trio Mudita also draws from this wellspring. Life-embracing music that is born from the seamless union of vocals, piano and trumpet. Singer Sanne Rambags, pianist Sjoerd van Eijck and trumpeter Koen Smits cherish silence, juggle melodies and renew musical harmony. The trio finds its rapture in the pristine beauty of nature. Unfettered, emotive improvised music that takes root in your heart, branches out into the realm of your thoughts and nestles in your whole being. 

The true musical nature of Mudita cannot be pinned down to just one genre. The trio boldly colors inside and outside the lines, with a resolute focus on their own world music. Mudita takes the listener on a sonic expedition through warm-blooded, melancholy dreamscapes and unexplored byways. Sometimes minimalistic in tone, sometimes exuberant and seductive. With her versatile voice, Sanne Rambags lures you unreservedly into the preserve of Mudita. Rambags’ vocal repertoire is irresistible: tender words, ecstatic vocaleses and intimate whispers. The same candor can be heard in the playing of her travel companions. Pianist Sjoerd van Eijck goes straight to the heart of the music and draws a framework with his inspired, lyrical style. Koen Smits livens up the journey, painting soundscapes with his passionate and fiery trumpet playing. Pensively and respectfully, the three musicians seek to converge. They listen to each other, learn from each other, constantly on their way to creating their own extraordinary language of sound. 

Mudita’s poetic urge to explore has not gone unnoticed. For their debut album Listen To The Sound Of The Forest (ZenneZ Records, 2018) the trio received one of the most important Dutch music awards, an Edison, in the category Jazz/World, National Vocal Jazz. 

The musicians’ deep, shared passion for everything that grows and blooms can also be heard on their new album that will be released in early 2021. On Nature Of The Netherlands, Mudita pays a personal tribute to the unsuspected natural gems that the Netherlands has to offer. In 2021, the many nature reserves in the Netherlands receive extra attention. Mudita crisscrossed the country and visited 21 national parks. Enchanted by this powerful experience, the trio composed 21 new pieces. In Mudita’s hands, the unspoiled natural beauty of the Netherlands is suddenly unleashed.
