The music of the young Swiss jazz quartet ITAKIRY reveals a mystical-human story: from the dim depths, an essence makes its way to the surface, where it appears clearly and powerfully.

According to the telling, Itakiry means “water flowing from the rock” and is also the third first name of the Swiss-German singer Chiara Nolwenn Itakiry Schönfeld, who is the founder of this band.

With a bright, silky voice and lyrical vocal lines, she leads us through her songs, which are inspired by inner themes and impressions from nature.

Xavier Almeida (p), Francesco Losavio (b) and Maris Egli (dr) enliven the pieces by subtly complementing the unexpressed or creating contrasts. In the field of tension between urgency and fragility, intimate sound spheres unfold in which improvisation merges with composition. ITAKIRY seek to create a musical momentum in which it is allowed to let go and reflect.

The band was formed in 2019 in the Swiss city of Lucerne. After releasing their single «Unknown Desire» and EP «Shadows of Ourselves» in early 2021, they are currently working on their debut album, which will be released in September 2022.
